Passion for Dentistry: My Story and Vision in brief

As I reflect on the esteemed honor of becoming the Overall National Chairman, 100 years of Philippine Dentistry, I am filled with a profound sense of acceptance and appreciation. This milestone represents not only a significant achievement but also a formidable challenge. As I look back on my journey, I am proud to have made a lasting impact on the dental profession, not only in my generation but also for generations to come.

Throughout my career, I have been committed to advancing the field of dentistry. One notable achievement was my appointment as one of the 7 Philippine Dental Association Legislation Committee Officers in July 2004. Our committee was tasked with updating and reviewing the proposed amendments to the Philippine Dental Act of 1965, also known as Republic Act 4419. This effort culminated in the passage of the New Dental Law, Republic Act 9484, during the Third Special Sessions of the Thirteenth Congress of the Philippines in 2007.

In addition to my legislative work, I have also made it a priority to document and preserve the history of the Philippine dental profession. As part of my efforts, I published the Souvenir Magazine in 2003, which features important historical events and milestones that have shaped the profession over the years. This publication serves as a testament to the evolution and growth of dentistry in the Philippines.

I am pleased to share these accomplishments with my readers through my blogs:

Overall, I am grateful for the opportunity to have made a meaningful impact on the field of dentistry, and I am committed to continuing this work in the years to come.

National Dental Health Month is an annual event that takes place in February, aimed at raising awareness about the importance of oral health and its impact on overall well-being. It is observed by dental professionals, schools, and communities to promote good oral hygiene practices, prevent dental diseases, and encourage people to maintain healthy teeth and gums.

During National Dental Health Month, various activities and campaigns are organized to educate people about proper oral hygiene habits, such as brushing, flossing, and regular dental check-ups. These activities also highlight the significance of a balanced diet and avoiding harmful habits like smoking and excessive consumption of sugary beverages. The Pampanga Chapter of the Philippine Dental Association (PDA) plays a crucial role in the celebration of the National Dental Health Month. As a professional organization, the PDA aims to support its members in providing quality dental care and promoting dental health in their communities. The Pampanga Chapter, in particular, contributes to this goal by organizing events and activities, such as free dental check-ups, oral health education seminars, and dental missions, to reach out to those who may not have access to dental care.

2.      Regular dental check-ups: Encouraging people to visit dentists for routine dental check-ups and cleanings helps detect and treat dental problems early, preventing more severe issues in the future.

3.      Access to dental care: Initiatives are being taken to ensure that people, especially those in rural areas, have access to affordable and quality dental care services.

4.      Public awareness campaigns: Media campaigns are conducted to raise awareness about dental health issues, the benefits of maintaining good oral hygiene, and the importance of regular dental check-ups.

5.      Collaboration with local governments: Dental professionals and organizations work closely with local governments to develop and implement oral health policies and programs.

6.      Community engagement: Dental professionals and organizations collaborate with community members to create and implement sustainable oral health initiatives that cater to the needs of the local population.

By implementing these strategies and initiatives, the province of Pampanga aims to improve the oral health of its residents and reduce the prevalence of dental diseases.
